To set up your banks and accounts, the easiest is to look at the samples given. Click Misc|Active in order to see the inactive accounts. There are various Sample banks: a sampel checking account, a sample credit card, a sample mutual fund, and such. Select one, and press Misc|Insert Record. Change the details to refer to your bank. Enter a four letter code for your bank (Citi for Citibank, Janu for Janus, etc). The window on the right explains all the fields. Press Okay when you are done.

 

Another way is to  press the + sign in the indicator bar. This will add a blank record. Fill in the fields as shown in the aqua explanation on the right. Be sure that Activ is Y (for an active field). However, this way is not as easy as the above way.

 

Activ:Y for an active account. It is advisable never to delete an account record.

Repository:        Symbol for bank, credit card, or stock. E.g, Comm, Citi. Lower case for special banks (see below).

Account:        Symbol for the account in the bank. E.g., ck, sav

Currency:        $, or a character for the foreign currency

Taxded:         If true, deposits will default to taxded regardless of the budget. This would be a business account.

Comments:        This wiill appear on each deposit as a comment

Comment:        This will not appear on each deposit. Can be used for an access number.

Joint:                True for joint account, to keep track of husband's and wife's check numbers. In the olden days, husbands and wifes had joint checking accounts. Now any two people can have joint accounts. The symbols H and W are used in this historical sense. 

H:                        For a joint account. H is one member of the joint account, and W is the other. For a corporate account, use C. Any letter can be used, to distinguish various members, except the letter C. This has the special meaning of corporate account.

Bank Name:        Full name of the bank

AccNo:                Account number. This is dialed when the bank asks for the account number.

Ckno:                Last check number written

Husno:                Last check written by husband for a joint account

Wifeno:                Last check by wife

Ckinx:                If true, checks are arranged by check number when checking bank statement.Otherwise, arranged solely by date.

Type:                May have values B,C,c,M,S,N,R.

                       B:  Bank

                       C:   Credit Card. Use small "c" for active credit cards that you do not use.

                       M: Mutual Fund

                       S:   Stock

                       N:  Nothing (such as cash, none, remd)

                       R:  Corporate account (R for registered)

Zerom:                Has values y or m, or is blank.

       If y, the balance will be zeroed at the beginning of the year.

       If m, zeroed at the beg of the month.

       For example:

               car m (miles driven for tax purposes). In this case, Month will give the year it was zeroed. 

       Another example:        

cash. In this case, we want to know the amount spent during the month. Therefore, the balance is automatically zeroed at the beginning of the month.

Month:                The year (or month) when the balance was zeroed.

Bal:                Balance in the account. For mutual funds, the current worth of the account.

Costshar:        Latest cost per share

Noshares:        Number of shares in the account

StatDate:        Date of the last statement

WorthDate:        Date when the mutual fund cost per share was last updated.

Phone:                Bank's phone number. You can dial this number automatically.

Pound:           If true, the account numbers and such dialed to the bank will be followed by the pound key.

Memo:                Text notes. Right click on the memo field for the editor.
