Retrieving email.

You sat down at the computer, and noticed that you have 200 email messages in your in box. You have 30 minutes time to process the email. What do you do? This program will help you sort out the items.

After setting up the host and passwords, press Retrieve from the main form. Alternatively, you can run the program with a parameter -R. Double click on this and the connection will be made, and the program run. In addition, you can set a timer so that the program will check every n minutes for new messages on the server. If new messages are available while the program is minimized, the program title in the Taskbar will change to "New Messages". It will not flash. I find flashing programs disturbing. I do not want the program to insist that I respond immediately. Instead, if the program is minimized, and then restored, the connection to the email server will be automatic, and the message retrieval will begin.

If the subject starts out with "Re" or "Fwd", it will be removed. This is for consistency with the email database, which does not have "Re" in the subject. It permits sorting by subject, without the unnecessary "Re".

Cat and Category are discussed below. Friend can be F - Friend or S - Spam.

Saved is read only, and is checked when the message is saved in the database.

Keep is checked for email you wish to keep. When saved, it becomes automatically unchecked. You can check it again, if for some reason you wish to keep it on the server.

The material saved is text. Some emails have text hidden in various graphics. The program removes the graphics. The extra stuff is shown after the line:

Extra Body----------------------------------------------------------

Material from here on is not saved. If you wish to save it, cut and paste the text below to the above the line.

The same is true for a line containing "Original Message". If you wish to keep the original message, delete this line.

You can also double click anywhere on the message when viewed as a rectangle on the lower left of the screen (not the edit box in the screen center). This will delete everything from this point. It is useful to eliminate trailing junk from the email.
