Variables on the left

By mathematical convention, variables are written on the left. The one exception is a compound inequality, such as -5 < x < 3. When solving equations, we should strive for variables on the left. E.g., if we have the equation 5n + 11 = 7n 9, simplify by subtracting 7n from both sides, rather than adding 5n, although both are correct.
