The approach taken by many, yelling and threatening, can at best get a begrudged attention. How do we get their sincere full attention? How do we get them to really start thinking of the material?

 

To try to understand the answer to this important question, I ask myself what do I do to get my own attention when studying difficult material, such as advanced mathematics. Of course, there are the preliminaries - a clear desk, book opened, paper and pen ready, proper lighting, and quiet. But how do I focus my mind on the material?
