| 1. | Be sure that the lesson plan is available in writing before starting new material. Students should know the plans: the daily plans, the weekly plans which are followed by tests or quizzes, and the plan for the marking period. |
| 2. | The first thing the teacher should do is to write the date on the board. Students should be encouraged to emulate the teacher, and write the date on their notes and homework. |
| 3. | The teacher should prepare a handout of the classroom rules, and discuss them during the first day. During the year, the students need to be reminded of the rules. Remind them when the rules are broken. |
| 4. | One of the rules must be that students are to take out paper, pen, and book (except when a test is scheduled). For a student to sit without paper, or with a closed book, should be a rule violation. |
| 5. | Give examples before giving the abstract concept or theorem. |
| 6. | Watch student responses, and listen to their questions and comments. If a student raises his/her hand, but was not called on, let the student know that you knew the hand was raised. |
