Student faces

Towards the end of the period, I walked over to one girl that I noticed looked bored. I talked with her. I complemented her on her penmanship, and this helped establish  a rapport. While talking, she told me that she failed last year. I told her it is vital to ask questions during class, not to falsely assume she can figure it out later at home. I then wished her good luck with the course.

The teacher must watch the students' faces. If a student looks bored, talk with the student privately while the others are working.

While talking, watch their faces carefully. If you see any signs of puzzlement or disinterest, then stop and ask them what they are not sure about. You have to give attention to your students, and treat them with respect. You have to find out just what they understand and what they do not understand.
