Student errors

The students did problems on the board.  One had an error in copying the problem. Another had an error writing 9 instead of 6 in one of the steps.

When reviewing the work, we could discuss the errors. To make these errors clearer, we can write down on the board the errors. This way the students can better focus on the errors and learn how to check for the specific errors that they made.

Frequently the students groan when an error is pointed out to them, and tend to chastise themselves. This is not the attitude we want to foster. Errors will certainly happen, and there is no need to groan. The method of working is to check for the type of errors that happen, and to use finding mistakes as a learning experience in error detection.
