The single-minded approach |
Some people communicate with a single line of thought. Their communication is like a movie. Starting from the beginning, things proceed sequentially until the end. These people cannot tolerate interruptions, for interruptions break the flow of the movie. If a student asks a question, the teacher merely repeats what was said, i.e., replays the movie. Such teachers may make statements like, “What is it that you do not understand?” or “If you were to pay attention, you would understand!”
This is the way people often sit around and talk about their experiences. We do not want any deep understanding of the events, or alternative possibilities. We just want the step by step sequence of events.
This is not teaching. Teaching is not pouring ideas into the students' heads.
