Pumping water |
Talking to a friend, a retired businessman, telling me how they can save energy and so reduce global warming. He visited a place where they pumped water to a reservoir on top of a hill. By day, the water fell down and created electricity. Most of the electricity was sent to the grid for public use, with part of it saved to pump the water back up at night.
I vainly tried to explain that this cannot be, due to conservation of energy, and that the only purpose of the reservoir was to even out power generation between high and low demands.
Whose fault is it that an intelligent responsible citizen does not know elementary things like conservation of energy? How can such people vote and make rational decisions for our future? It is our fault, as educators!
