Poor teachers |
Students complained that Dr. M. refused to answer questions in the science class. They went to the department chairperson. She sat in on a class. Dr. M. was very attentive to the students, answering questions, and prodding students for questions. The students told me about this. This puzzles me.
| 1. | Dr. M. apparently knew the best way to teach, for this is how he acted when being observed. Why then did he teach the wrong way when not being observed? |
| 2. | Why didn't the chairperson get back to the students? Had she done so, she would have heard from them that Dr. M. was very different when she was present! Doesn't she understand that education is communication, and part of this process is finishing the communication with the students? The chairperson considered her responsibility as a judge, observing the teacher is enough to make a decision. She failed to understand her true responsibility is a communicator, and so she failed to complete the communication. |
