The problem was to solve 3x + y = 4 for x. M said that we have to isolate the x. Good. However, it is better to explicitly write the goal. We start working on the problem by writing on the board x = …, and saying that this is our goal. They have to see the goal.

 

Students should be encourage to do their own work in this fashion, making sure they see the goal.
