One approach is use of force. Insist that the class immediately sit down quietly. Talk to them like a football coach, and bark orders. Indeed, many coaches are teachers, and relate to students in class just as they do on the field. Some teachers relate to students like army drill sergeants.

 

I was in class observing. The teacher said, “One, two, three! How long does it take you to sit down and be quiet?”

 

“I feel personally bad that you wasted so much class time talking! When you go to college, the professors will immediately begin, without waiting for you to quiet down! You have to learn to behave!”
