Falsification

If there is no way to demonstrate that a statement is false, then the statement is not part of science.

It seems, sadly, that scientists seem to have forgotten this principle. For example, consider a black hole in general relativity (GR). According to GR, the geometry of space is modified by the presence of masses. Because of this, time is slower near a mass. Time on earth is very slightly slower than time on a satellite. This effect is critical for GPS systems. A black hole distorts space to the extreme, so that straight lines curve on themselves. If we watch an object falling straight down a black hole, we will note that it takes forever to reach the surface (called the event horizon), due to time slowing down near the huge mass.
