Big words

Top  Previous  Next

Big words in biology are built up of smaller words, without spaces or dashes. We have to know what the parts are, and not simply memorize the big word by itself.

For example:

The word “biology” is made up of “bio”, which means life, and “logy”, which means the study of.

The word photosynthesis is made up of “photo”, meaning light, and “synthesis”, meaning making, or “formation of a compound from simpler compounds or elements”.

Whenever you see large words, be sure you know what the parts are.
