The axioms, or properties, of numbers are very important, and need time. The book gives the explanation on one page, and the tendency is to explain these ideas quickly. Since the properties of numbers are the basis of the course, it would be wise to fully explain the ideas, and to be sure the students fully understand.

 

When doing problems, these ideas need to be reinforced by saying which property permitted us to do what we did.
