Addition and subtraction are the same operations, as a negative number is a number. When we discuss the rules, we can mention addition only. The teacher can add verbally that this includes subtraction.

 

This same comment applies to multiplication and division, as division is multiplication by the reciprocal.

 

The result is that the rules are twice as easy.
